Septenary system can be presented in a shape of small stones following the pattern of classic “curl of wave”. Seven stones, then six, then five etc. as shown on the painting. If we count the stones laid down this way, we get not 28 (the sum of the numbers from 1 to 7), but 22 stones only. In septenary system, 22 means 3 times 7 plus 1/7th.
22 = 3 x 7 + 1/7th
3 and 1/7 are equal to 3.142857…, e.g, represent very good approximation to π (3,141592…). In fact, Archimedes recommended 3 and 1/7th as the best practical tool for all the related calculations. No doubt, 3 and 1/7th had very high importance in ancient mathematics.
Here it is.
Another key to better understanding of the harmony of septenary system.
